About
Co-founder of Our Town Story. If you have any questions about the site, or wish to provide feedback, please visit the Admin forum and post in the appropriate place - we'll do our best to help you out as quickly as we can!
We really want Our Town Story to be an album for your old photos, to fill in the gaps in the history books of our villages, towns and cities. We would also love for those pictures to be able to help others - for instance by using reminiscence therapy in treating dementia .
We're still a work in progress, and we appreciate all suggestions and observations!

Image Details
The Burton building on the far corner still exists, and is now a Halifax building society, but many of the other buildings in this picture are long gone. Between that building and the one with the ball on top, Waterfront Way now runs through, itself replacing the flyover that appeared in the 1980s.
The pub on the corner in the foreground on the right hand side was demolished and is now an H Samuel jeweller. Lloyds still occupies the site on the left of the junction, but in a more modern building, built around the shell of the one in the picture.
The 'ghost' of the high-level Burton sign is still visible on the side of the Halifax.

It looks like this picture might be earlier than 1930, as there are no tram tracks on Military Road (left to right) - if you have any clues, please do add a comment!
