We really want Our Town Story to be an album for your old photos, to fill in the gaps in the history books of our villages, towns and cities. We would also love for those pictures to be able to help others - for instance by using reminiscence therapy in treating dementia

We're still a work in progress, and we appreciate all suggestions and observations!

High Street, Chatham, c. 1900s

Image Details

The High Street is virtually unrecognisable in this picture, with so much modernisation having been carried out in the intervening century.

A number of shop signs are legible, including J B Abery, A J Whitehead and Upson and Son. The large building in the distance is probably the Theatre Royal, whilst the twin gables and chimney of the Arkcoll Brewery pub are distinctive in the distance. This is opposite the current TK Maxx premises.
