About
Co-founder of Our Town Story. If you have any questions about the site, or wish to provide feedback, please visit the Admin forum and post in the appropriate place - we'll do our best to help you out as quickly as we can!
We really want Our Town Story to be an album for your old photos, to fill in the gaps in the history books of our villages, towns and cities. We would also love for those pictures to be able to help others - for instance by using reminiscence therapy in treating dementia .
We're still a work in progress, and we appreciate all suggestions and observations!

This is the shop next to where Church House currently stands - you can just see the corner of the stables belonging to Sansom's Hardware shop, as visible in this picture:
The shop has been home to a couple of different outlets in recent years, including India Jane and Almondbury's, but was for many years best known as McIlroy's. The corner of the building closest to the camera was remodelled (possibly during the construction of Church House in around 1905) to incorporate a rounded end display window.
Hint: Drag the orange pegman to see the Streetview image...

I've done a bit of research on the Newmans in the photos - you can read it on the Wimborne forum here ....
I notice that the building is known here as 'London House', which I suppose demonstrates a certain outward-looking and commercial aspiration. I imagine that a silk merchant would have to be fairly well-connected nationally....
