About
Co-founder of Our Town Story. If you have any questions about the site, or wish to provide feedback, please visit the Admin forum and post in the appropriate place - we'll do our best to help you out as quickly as we can!
We really want Our Town Story to be an album for your old photos, to fill in the gaps in the history books of our villages, towns and cities. We would also love for those pictures to be able to help others - for instance by using reminiscence therapy in treating dementia .
We're still a work in progress, and we appreciate all suggestions and observations!

Note the shop awnings bearing the name Hales & Son. Stephen Richard Hales (1857-1930) married Emily Perrett at Henley-on-Thames in 1881. The census of that year records that he was a confectioner employing two men and a household servant.
By 1894 Stephen was able to lease a more prestigious location at 20 Market Place, which would remain the Hales Bakery until his grandson Robert Stephen Hales retired in 1962.
Stephen was a respected Henley businessman who allowed the town's poor families to cook their Sunday dinners in his ovens.
20 Market Place is now occupied by Loch Fyne Seafood and Grill.
